I am not sure if I have spelled the name right, but I have two squalls now. They are birds, and I don’t know what to feed them. Could someone please tell me the diet of this bird? What else do I need to know when taking care of one?

How many people do you think are still stuck on feeding a primary diet of seed to their birds?

Jordan S. asked:

The pellet generation is beggining. How many people do you think are still hooked on to outdated bird care tips such as feeding a base diet of seeds and feeding grit to parrots. What percent of people do you think havn’t yet heard of the new pelleted diets? I mean really my friends were still feeding their birds seed. Luckily I told them it wasn’t healthy and they stoped. How much work do you think it will take to alert people that seeds are the road to malnutrition. I mean really seeds should be history by now.
Those of you who feed your parrots pellets, fruits, veggies, nuts,no grit, and seed only as a occasional treat I aplaud to. You did your homework!

My parakeets have four babies so far and are feeding away and the babies look big and healthy. Is there any extras they (the Mom and Dad) might need in their diet right now?

How do you switch pigeons from a seed diet to a pellet diet?

Christy asked:

With feed prices rapidly increasing (thanks to increasing fuel prices…) I have decided to try pellets. They are cheaper and there should be less wasted food. Has anyone fed the pigeon pellet that Tractor Supply sells? Do the pigeons do well on a diet of pellet? How should I go about switching them from a mixed seed diet to a pellet diet? Thank you!

What is the best diet for a cockatoo who will not each fresh fruit or veggies?

When I rescued my bird, the previous owner said that he would eat only peanuts, coffee and toast!!! Fortunately, a vet check-up deemed him in great shape despite the poor diet and smokey environment where he lived. My vet demands that the cockatoo be switched to a 100% pellet diet using HARRISON’S commercial pellets. Everything I read prescribes a varied diet to include mixed seeds and fresh food along with pellets. He delights in eating nuts from the shell including walnuts, hazel nuts, pecans and Brazil nuts. I am offering 2/3 pellets and 1/3 seed mixture and most of it is eaten (or on the floor of the cage) each day. My bird delights in drinking cranberry juice and apple juice from a cup while I have my coffee which I know is a poison for birds. He throws all fresh food out of his cup but will take cooked meat and whipped cream if I feed it by hand. I would love to hear from other cockatoo owners about their success with food for their bird.
