It depends on how many Cokes you drink now?
Each can of Coke has 140 calories, you'd need to cut out 3500 calories to lose approximately 1 lb. That is 1 lb for every 25 cans of Coke.
If you cut out 2 cans of plain Coke a day, you'd lose a pound every two weeks or so if I'm doing the math right [you may want to double check it?].
Flavored water is a lot healthier, it doesn't usually have the artificial sweetener and also little/no acid. Coke and Diet Coke both have phosphoric acid which is very bad for your teeth.

edit- I mean the flavored seltzer water, not Vitamin water or something like that. That stuff has a lot of sugar/calories. LORI

I have been through it all and know what's it about. The main thing is to stick in there. You can't be an addict to food and never exercise if you want to live a healthy life and keep the weight off. I've worked out, done every diet, and all types of classes.

Nothing works, besides dedication and intelligence towards the subject of losing weight.

First, depending on how much weight you need to lose, your diet is the first concern. You can't eat 10,000 calories a day and expect the weight to come off, even if you are exercising a lot. Which brings us to the next thing. Duh, Exercising...

This is a must especially if you need to a lot of weight. Get at least 30 mins of some good hardcore exercising. Do some cardio, in the long run, it's good for the heart.

However, I find the most hardest part of losing weight/keeping it off, in my diet. It's so hard to keep your fingers out of the cookie jar or those chocolate goodies. I've found a great addition to help any one out, it's a natural weight loss supplement called Proactol. Now don't get all crazy on me and say diet pills don't work. That is true, but not in this case. This one isn't meant to burn pounds while you sit on the couch. It's an appetite suppressant, along with being a fat binder. I saved money on the pills at theweightlossplace.com along with getting some good info. It basically makes those fingers not go towards the cookie jar. For me it's the best pill I've tried and I've tried cupboards full. Now this doesn't mean you have to follow my foot steps but I've successfully lost roughly 70 pounds and keeping it off til this day.

Well good luck and remember what I said, Dedicate. Jenny Drake

Yes.

The mind and body are not two separate things, but one and the same. What you put into your mouth can and will affect your brain. Things like artificial sweeteners can impact brain chemistry, like aspartame's phenalalynine in large doses cause migraines in some folks. Sugar can impact blood sugar levels which can impact seratonin levels and mood.

A lot of folks eat a deficient diet, so they are lacking in vitamins and minerals. Many of these, along with amino acids and fatty acids, play a role in brain chemistry. Folks who suffer from schizophrenia may just have a B-vitamin deficiency. But, the docs like to give them some meds instead of running a nutritional panel on them.

The problem is "diet" and "healthy" are subjective words. Some folks will tell you a healthy diet is soy beans and bean sprouts. Others will say a protein diet. There are some patients suffering from seizures who do well on high fat diets. The problem is each person's body chemistry is different, so you need to find a decent diet for that person.

Generally... a good diet to start with would include lean meats, fish, nuts, green veggies, advocado. Depending on their tolerance for carbs, you wuold then add in some complex, starchy, glucose-based carbs, like potatoes, rice, oatmeal, etc. Wheat can be a huge intolerance for some folks, and can cause metnal fog as well as insulin resistance in some folks. So, it may be a good idea to avoid gluten. Dairy products can also cause mental fog and mental problems in some folks, even if they seem to digest them well.

Cut out caffiene, since it over-stimulates and can burn out the endocrine system. Get plenty of protein, and drink water. Start some exercise by walking, then maybe hit the gym and do 1 set of each exercise you can for the first week, 2 sets for the second week, then 3 sets from the 3rd week on. Just heading out for a 10 minute walk can do wonders to help clear up your head. Blah Blah Black Sheep

I would have to say GNC as well. Or you could just buy some juice. I have heard that those really pricey juice diets are just a fad, and aren't really different from typical juice. Vegan Girl

No only diabetics or pcos or other problems , a low carb diet is great for a healthy lifestyle . A lw glycemic index diet is great because you don't have to COUNT carbs. In one week you will know what to eat , what not to eat and how much. A great way to eat for the whole family. Breads , rice anything with white flour and sugar are not good for you. Potato's are also not a great thing to eat . All these things in moderation.

Here is the website for the best diet you can find.
This table includes the glycemic index and glycemic load of more than 2,480 individual food items. Not all of them, however, are available in the United States. They represent a true international effort of testing around the world.

The glycemic index (GI) is a numerical system of measuring how much of a rise in circulating blood sugar a carbohydrate triggers–the higher the number, the greater the blood sugar response. So a low GI food will cause a small rise, while a high GI food will trigger a dramatic spike. A list of carbohydrates with their glycemic values is shown below. A GI is 70 or more is high, a GI of 56 to 69 inclusive is medium, and a GI of 55 or less is low.

The glycemic load (GL) is a relatively new way to assess the impact of carbohydrate consumption that takes the glycemic index into account, but gives a fuller picture than does glycemic index alone. A GI value tells you only how rapidly a particular carbohydrate turns into sugar. It doesn't tell you how much of that carbohydrate is in a serving of a particular food. You need to know both things to understand a food's effect on blood sugar. That is where glycemic load comes in. The carbohydrate in watermelon, for example, has a high GI. But there isn't a lot of it, so watermelon's glycemic load is relatively low. A GL of 20 or more is high, a GL of 11 to 19 inclusive is medium, and a GL of 10 or less is low.

Foods that have a low GL almost always have a low GI. Foods with an intermediate or high GL range from very low to very high GI.

Both GI and GL are listed here. The GI is of foods based on the glucose index–where glucose is set to equal 100. The other is the glycemic load, which is the glycemic index divided by 100 multiplied by its available carbohydrate content (i.e. carbohydrates minus fiber) in grams. (The "Serve size (g)" column is the serving size in grams for calculating the glycemic load; for simplicity of presentation I have left out an intermediate column that shows the available carbohydrates in the stated serving sizes.) Take, watermelon as an example of calculating glycemic load. Its glycemic index is pretty high, about 72. According to the calculations by the people at the University of Sydney's Human Nutrition Unit, in a serving of 120 grams it has 6 grams of available carbohydrate per serving, so its glycemic load is pretty low, 72/100*6=4.32, rounded to 4.

Hey , by the way , don't forget to get into a routine of EXERCISE> It is as important as eating right . Walking is fine . 1 hour a day is great. Also gives you time to clear your head. Maybe get a dog to walk .

Good luck to you

I am a type 2 Diabetic and a sufferer of PCOS and I take metformin as well to control both but the aftermath of metformin makes it very hard to eat I find. There really is no way to tell if the many trips to the can will stop ( personally If I only eat veggies the trips are not as bad or frequent) just limit the fats and starchy carbs ( IE bread, pasta and sweet baked goods or in a some cases limit corn and white rice) and drink a lot of water if you can. I hope that I have helped and good luck. Amanda

Just be as natural as possible! You know, the basics...a lot of different fruit, vegetables, and whole grains. I'm a vegan and a runner and thats basically what I feed off of.
